On Saturday, May 27, 2017 the Midland County Sportsman's Club ran the 2017 Michigan Fullbore Rifle Championship.  We had a beautiful day, and twenty-one (21) competitors enjoyed gentle conditions for the match.

The course of fire included ten (10) shots at 300, 500 and 600 yards, followed by a single fifteen (15) shot string at 600 yards.

Our turn-out was sufficient to provide three (3) State Champions:  Target Rifle (the dudes with the slings), F-Open, and F-TR.  Target Rifle was won by Peter Church with a 449-35X,  Pete was chased by Jake Bondy with a 447-19X.  F-Open was won by Marcel Bollinger with a 445-21X.  F-TR was won by John Pierce with a 448-28X, who out Xed John Droelle, who posted a 448-21X.

Left to right:  Marcel Bollinger, F-Open Champion; John Pierce, F-TR Champion; and Peter Church, Target Rifle Champion.

2017 Michigan Fullbore Prone Championship

The next competition at Midland will be held on June 10, 2017, and will be match two (2) of the Suburban Mid-Range Prone League.  Program is here.

After three weekends in a row for the Winter Mid-Range Prone League, we conducted the first of the Suburban Mid-Range Prone League matches.  Twelve (12) shooters came out for the first of these for 2017.  They enjoyed a brisk, but sunny morning.  However, they were challenged by a heavy buffeting wind that rocked scores across the board.

The High Any Rifle (Sling) shooter was Jake Bondy, with a 594-31X.  Notably, Jake cleaned the first string with a 200-14X.  An absolutely outstanding score in the wind we experienced today.

The High F-TR shooter was John Roethlisberger with a 589-28X.  Given the wind another outstanding score.

Today's Scores:

2017 WMRP - Match 5

We had a decent, sunny day for Match 3 of the Winter Mid-Range Prone League. Moreover, we had the best turn-out of the year with ten (10) shooters.

Jake Bondy was the high Target Rifle shooter (sling shooter), with a 398-23X.  John Roethlisberger was the high F-TR shooter with a 397-26X besting John Pierce by three X's.  It appears everyone is starting to get into practice for 2017.

2017 WMRP - Match 3

We did record a couple of concerning photos:

They appear to be of a notable F-TR shooter wearing a shooting jacket, slung up, and firing an Any Rifle.  When we left Midland the competitors were still in shock....  We are withholding his name to protect his reputation.

We held the 2017 Snow Country English Match League Shoot-Off at the Jackson Sportsman's Club in Jackson, Michigan on April 1, 2017.  Nine of the Ten qualified competitors shot.
