God knows, it may have been a sign of the Apocalypse, but on November 25, 2006 we had temperatures that ranged from about 40 F when we started shooting at 9:00 AM, and 56 F by the time we completed at about 1:00 PM. It was an absolutely a stellar day. In many ways, the Annual Foul-Weather Rifle Match wasn't very Foul, it was pleasant. Thirteen shooters enjoyed the morning, of which nine shot "any rifle", with three of that number firing a 598 or better. The winner was Leo Cebula with a 599-43X, followed by Ray Gross at 599-39X, and Jerry Engelman with a 598-38X. All three used metallic sighted Palma rifles and 155 gr. Sierras. We had four F-Class competitors, with the winning score posted by Bret Solomon, with a 600-58X. A few months ago, much was made of an F-Class competitor firing a 200-20X at 600 yards. Bret did it twice, posting a 200-20X in both of the first two stages, and following with a 200-18X (admittedly disappointing to Bret). The match paid awards to the winner: Leo Cebula; 1st HM, Ray Gross; 1st MA, Mike Craycraft; and High F-Class, Bret Solomon. This match completes the Midland County Long Range competitions for 2006. Next year we will open in March with our Winter League, and our matches will be Mid-Range Prone instead of Long Range. If you are interested in competition during the winner, consider the SEMNO coordinated Snow Country matches.
