For most of the week prior to the annual Halloween BSA Charity Match the weather Gods were calling for rain. I'm pleased to say that we didn't get wet... Well, we didn't get very wet with just a couple of moments where Mother Nature spit upon us. However, the balmy 46 degrees F had a wind chill that made it feel like 36 degrees F. To put it simple, I froze my butt off, and had a face red with wind burn. Okay, I'll stop whining. We had sixteen (16) competitors, the highest for 2009. If Bob Elka hadn't hit a deer, and Kevin Nevius hadn't decided to wimp-out we would have been at range capacity.
Crew 7734 receives donation checks from Richfield Industries and the Midland County Sportsman's Club Amazingly, I think the shooters had a good time, and were able to contribute $480.00 to Crew 7734 of Midland. Photos of the match can be seen here. The High Target Rifle shooter (Any Rifle) was Leo Cebula with a 589-22X, High F-Open was Bret Solomon with a 589-16X, High F-TR was Jim Dietlein with 578-15X, High Service Rifle was Jeff Schmitigal with a 543-12X. Second Target Rifle was Junior Shooter Taylor Grissom with 586-23X, and Second F-Open was Pete Petros with 578-15X. Scores were much lower than normal for Midland. The competitors were buffered by incredible winds that gusted in excess of 30 MPH. The normal wind tunnel of Midland County Sportsman's Club (MCSC) was a raging torrent of winds. Resulting in the low scores especially in the second twenty shot stage. MCSC has one more match scheduled for 2009: The Annual Foul Weather Rifle Match. This is planned for the Saturday following Thanksgiving: November 28, 2009. I'm betting the weather will be better than for our Halloween match. Click the link for the program, and come on out. It will give you a chance to get away from family, and will improve your mental health. |
